Andrew Farriss's Epic Show @Tanks Arts Centre

Any Night at Cairns Tanks Arts Centre is almost guaranteed to be a good one and this was no exception.

With local legend and superb songstress Tullara kicking off festivities setting the tone for the night with tales between songs and it also isn’t often you see a support act get the crowd clapping along.

Andrew Farriss best known as one half of the music writing power behind INXS with his friend and lead singer Michael Hutchence, arrives onstage with one of the biggest hats ever seen with acoustic guitar in hand.

Reinventing himself as a country singer he begins the night with his solo material ambling and rambling yet insightful with a few tales of horse riding and exploring the American west.

The band were excellent and so tight with the lead guitatarist hitting hard and the back up singer adding a depth and richness to the songs and sound

Of course there were stories about songwriting and how Farriss and Hutchence never competed in this area with Farris writing the music and Hutchence writing the words. This was the Segway that lead into the classic INXS anthem Mystify.

There were also tales of producing and writing songs with and for others including Yothu Yindi and Jenny Morris.

One highlight of the night was Farriss telling the story of how headed into the recording sessions for “Welcome To Wherever You Are” they got together and Farriss asks Hutchence if he has any lyrics to which he replies “ No il eft my notebook of song lyrics in a taxi in Paris, do you have any songs?” to which Farris then plays beautiful girl….If you closed your eyes you went straight back to 1993.

No Knowing what to expect the evening was a fantastic night and a perfect mix of the old and the new of Andrew Farris’ rich life as a song writer and a performer….

I would love to see an acosutic cover version of INXS songs by Andrew Farriss I think it would be amazing
